The 2nd Seminar on International Core-to-Core Project on Nano Carbon Device Science at Kyoto was held from October 4th to 6th, 2023.

From October 4th to 6th, 2023, the International Seminar “The 2nd Seminar on International Core-to-Core Project on Nano Carbon Device Science at Kyoto” was held at the Obaku Plaza, Uji Campus, chaired by Professor Shigeru Yamago (Polymer Controlled Synthesis). A total of 59 researchers from the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany and Japan participated in this event.

This international seminar is an annual event held as part of the research exchange within the “Integrated International Hub for Nano Carbon Device Science by Fusion of Synthesis and Devices (*1)”.

The “Integrated International Hub for Nano Carbon Device Science by Fusion of Synthesis and Devices” aims to serve as an international research exchange hub in the field of fusion research, bringing together research groups from the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany and Japan that lead the world in carbon nano-molecule synthesis and device evaluation and analysis. Its primary objectives include fostering the development of young researchers who will become future leaders in this interdisciplinary field. Professor Shigeru Yamago, Professor Hironori Kaji, and Associate Professor Takashi Hirose from the Institute for Chemical Research, Kyoto University are actively participating as project members.

During the three-day seminar, several activities were conducted, including special seminars tailored for young researchers, oral presentations by young researchers, poster presentations, group discussions, and laboratory tours to the Yamago Laboratory and the Kaji Laboratory. These events facilitated active knowledge sharing and exchange of ideas. At the closing ceremony, awards were presented to outstanding young promising researchers who gave oral and poster presentations.

The next seminar is scheduled to be held in Quebec, Canada, in August 2024.

(*1) The Core-to-Core Program, conducted by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), is aimed at establishing research hubs.
