An international symposium entitled “10th Pacific Symposium on Radical Chemistry (PSRC-10)” was held at Obaku Plaza in the Uji Campus, Kyoto University for 6 days from June 4th to 9th, 2023, chaired by Prof. Shigeru Yamago.

　Since its establishment in 2004, this symposium has been held for the 10th time to activate organic radical chemistry and mutual exchange among people in this field, not only in the Pacific Rim but also in the world. This symposium was originally scheduled to be held in 2021, but postponed to this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 186 researchers from 18 countries gathered for 55 oral presentations (3 keynote lectures, 28 special invited lectures, and 24 invited lectures) and 91 poster presentations. Recent research results in a wide range of fields were presented, including reaction development using photoredox catalysts, synthesis of high-valued polymers and materials using radicals, and design, synthesis, and theory of complex, multi-radical/radicaloid molecules. Since the presentations were given on-site except for one, the participants were able to have lively face-to-face Q&A sessions and strengthen their relationships in a relaxed atmosphere during a welcome party, coffee breaks, lunches, a poster session, and a banquet, sometimes with a few alcoholic beverages. Twelve students and post-doctoral fellows were selected as poster award winners, and the awards were presented at the closing ceremony. Through this symposium, we believe that we have successfully achieved the original purpose of this conference, which was to further the development of research in organic radical chemistry and to provide an opportunity for international exchange among the research community.
