Workshop “Past, Present and Future of Asian Lacquer” (2025.02.13)

On February 13th, the workshop “Past, Present and Future of Asian Lacquer” was held in Pisa, Italy with 60 attendees and twelve invited speakers from Europe and Japan. Among the contributors was Prof. SHIMODE, a renowned urushi artist based in Kyoto, who provided a demonstration of maki-e techniques.
The workshop was a unique opportunity to bring together lacquer experts from various fields, ranging from chemists and heritage scientists to conservators and museum curators, with the goal to tackle the main challenges in lacquer characterization, preservation and utilization.
